Roger F. Steinert, MD
Irving H. Leopold Professor of Ophthalmology, Director, Gavin Herbert Eye Institute, University of California, Irvine
Dr. Steinert is an internationally respected clinician and researcher. He held faculty appointments at Harvard Medical School (where he received his medical degree in 1977) until his recruitment to UC Irvine in 2004. He has been consistently on the rolls of ‘America’s Top Doctors’ and ‘Best Doctors in America’ as well as one of the ’50 Top Opinion Leaders’ identified by Cataract and Refractive Surgery Today. Among his many honors and awards is the Distinguished Faculty Award for Teaching from the Academic Senate at UC Irvine, the 2009 Life Achievement Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Visionary Award from the Foundation Fighting Blindness in 2010. Dr. Steinert has authored over 120 peer-review articles and more than 60 book chapters. He is a past president of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and is now scientific program chair of the annual meeting
