Uday Devgan, MD, FACS, FRCS

Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology, Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA School of Medicine

Dr. Devgan is an international expert in ocular surgery, with a special interest in cataract, refractive lens implant surgery. He is both in private practice, with a highly successful cataract and refractive lens practice for the past 10 years, as well as in academic medicine as Associate Clinical Professor at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at the UCLA School of Medicine. Dr. Devgan earned his MD with Highest Distinction at the top of his class at the USC School of Medicine where he was co-president of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He trained at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA, where he won awards for outstanding achievement as well as research. He has personally taught surgery to every UCLA ophthalmology resident surgeon for the past decade in his position as Chief of Ophthalmology at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center.

Prof. Dr. Thomas Kohnen, FEBO

Director, Professor and Chair of Ophthalmology, Goethe-University, Frankfurt, Germany

Dr. Kohnen is an internationally known expert in clinical and basic research in the field of accommodation as well as ophthalmic surgery. He is the president of the German Society of Intraocular Lens Implantation, Interventional and Refractive Surgery (DGII), as well as an editor for Journal of Cataract and Refract Surgery, Der Ophthalmologe, and Klinische Monatsblätter für Augenheilkunde. He is the author of over 316 scientific articles, reviews, editorials, and books and has presented over 300 lectures. He is part of a group of researchers performing experimental research with primates on new accommodative solutions.

Kerry Assil, MD

Assil Eye Institute, Beverly Hills, CA

Dr. Assil is an international expert in refractive surgery and has trained thousands of eye surgeons in the latest refractive surgery techniques. He is the founder of the Assil Eye Institute and serves as its Medical Director. The International Society of Refractive Surgery honored Dr. Assil by naming him the youngest member to its board of directors. Dr. Assil has authored more than one hundred textbook chapters, and articles on refractive surgery. He serves as Editor and Reviewer to multiple scientific journals and appears regularly on all major television network news programs as a pioneer in refractive surgery.

Eric Donnenfeld, MD

Dr. Donnenfeld is an internationally recognized expert and pioneer in refractive, cornea and cataract surgery and one of the leading refractive and cataract surgeons in the United States. Dr. Donnenfeld graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth College and was first in his class at Dartmouth Medical School in 1980. He was Chief Resident at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital and completed a Cornea and Refractive Fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital. Dr. Donnenfeld is a past President of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He has authored more than 180 papers on cornea, external disease, cataract and refractive surgery, 500 scientific articles, and 40 books and book chapters on subjects pertaining to corneal transplants, cataract surgery and laser vision correction.

Rosa Braga-Mele MD, MEd, FRCSC

Dr. Braga-Mele is a Professor of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, Canada. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from University of Ottawa Medical School and completed her residency at the University of Toronto. Dr. Braga-Mele is a cataract specialist and educator who speaks frequently at both the national and international level on advanced surgical techniques and innovations in the area of phacoemulsification surgery and complicated cataract cases and IOL development. She was voted by her peers as one of the top 50 opinion leaders in cataract and refractive surgery. She has over 150 published abstracts and papers. Dr. Braga-Mele serves as the Chair of the Education Clinical Committee (2015–present) for the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and is a member of the Governing Board and Program Committee for ASCRS.

Kerry D. Solomon, MD

Director of the Carolina Eyecare Research Institute; Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).

Dr. Solomon is an international recognized expert in cataract and refractive surgery and 2016 President of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS). Over his 24 years of practicing medicine, Dr. Solomon has achieved status among the country’s best ophthalmic surgeons. He was one of the first in the country to perform laser-assisted cataract surgery, implant multifocal and astigmatic correction lenses, and perform topography-guided LASIK. He has written over 170 publications and given more than 600 lectures and live surgical demonstration at national and international meetings.

Dr. Sumit (Sam) Garg, MD

Vice Chair of Clinical Ophthalmology, Medical Director, and an Associate Professor in Cataract, Refractive, External Disease and Corneal Surgery at the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute at the University of California, Irvine.

Dr. Garg is a highly-skilled clinician, surgeon, and teacher, and has expertise in cataract surgery and complication management, corneal (PKP, FLEK, DSEK, DMEK), conjunctival, and refractive surgery. Dr. Garg participates in numerous research projects, many of which he has presented at national and international meetings. Dr. Garg currently serves as chair of the American Cataract and Refractive Surgery Young Eye Surgeons clinical committee.
